Young People's Concert

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra presents a Young People's Concert at the LMC Mendel Center. This opportunity allows students to experience the sights and sounds of great music performed in a wonderful concert hall. For many students, this is the first experience of classical or orchestral music in a concert hall. The audience that we see is very diverse. Students will come from Benton Harbor schools, home school groups, parochial schools, urban schools, rural districts and charter schools.

The concert is presented during the school day for students grades 3 through 8. It is offered in two sessions, both in the morning. Each performance will be about 55 minutes in duration. The cost of the concert is $3.00 per student and chaperones. Teachers are admitted without charge.

We are able to offer a trained volunteer Docent to visit classes in advance of the concert to present an introduction and explanation of the music to be performed during the concert. Docents will bring printed and audio-visual material for students that allow them to be prepared for the concert. There is on charge to have the Docent visit the school.
