Docent Program

A Symphony Docent is a community volunteer who is interested in participating in the Symphony's educational outreach programs in the public and private schools in Southwest Michigan. Docents are trained to use specially designed educational materials developed by the Symphony in collaboration with the Berrien County Intermediate School District and the Krasl Art Center.

Docents use these materials in presentations to elementary and middle school classes. Docents also help students prepare for special concert programs by giving them the history and background of the music they will hear, information about the life of the composer and useful tips on how to enjoy the Youth Concerts they will attend. Docent school presentations can be made by an individual docent or by a team to either groups of classes, a single class, or to a student assembly.
