Have we got a show for you! Break up your winter blues with Dueling Piano, provided by Dueling Pianos Internations. This event can be summed up in a single word: FUN. Combine two sharp-witted, incredibly talented musicians with two pianos on a stage, add in a room full of people: the result is an evening of fast, funny, unforgettable entertainment!
Howard Performing Arts Center
The SMSO recognizes musicians that create great art in the midst of darkness. American composer Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral is a memorial to her younger brother. Pianist and Gilmore Young Artist Maxim Lando performs Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a work that takes inspiration from the Dies Irae or "Day of Wrath". Shostakovich faced censorship under Soviet rule but managed to triumph with his 5th Symphony.
Howard Performing Arts Center
Maestro Aubin celebrates his personal connection to French culture with a mixture of French and American music. Aubin welcomes back Mitsuru Kubo and Jeremy Crosmer to perform hidden gems by Fernande Decruck, a composer near and dear to his heart. Musicians from the LMYO join the SMSO on music from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. The season closes with Gershwin’s An American in Paris.

Pop Up!’s are free, small outdoor concert events about 45-60 minutes in length, performed at various locations and times (see below for this year's schedule). Each concert features a small ensemble of up to 5 professional musicians.

The SMSO is proud to announce A Salute to America! Join us to pay tribute to America and its steadfast strength with a mixture of patriotic favorites, film scores, and other iconic American works. The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky synchronized to an outstanding fireworks display end this spectacular celebration!

Bring your dancing shoes and jazz hands as the SMSO presents Ella & Gershwin on the Shore! A featured vocalist for the United States Coast Guard Band, Lisa Williamson's captivating voice combined with our Symphony's musical energy will inspire you to swing, dance, and sing along to these familiar favorites from this great American Song Book!
