Have we got a show for you! Break up your winter blues with Dueling Piano, provided by Dueling Pianos Internations. This event can be summed up in a single word: FUN. Combine two sharp-witted, incredibly talented musicians with two pianos on a stage, add in a room full of people: the result is an evening of fast, funny, unforgettable entertainment!

The SMSO recognizes musicians that create great art in the midst of darkness. American composer Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral is a memorial to her younger brother. Pianist and Gilmore Young Artist Maxim Lando performs Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a work that takes inspiration from the Dies Irae or "Day of Wrath". Shostakovich faced censorship under Soviet rule but managed to triumph with his 5th Symphony.

Maestro Aubin celebrates his personal connection to French culture with a mixture of French and American music. Aubin welcomes back Mitsuru Kubo and Jeremy Crosmer to perform hidden gems by Fernande Decruck, a composer near and dear to his heart. Musicians from the LMYO join the SMSO on music from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. The season closes with Gershwin’s An American in Paris.

Opening the concert is Coleman's "Seven O' Clock Shout", a tribute to the heartwarming ritual of evening serenades that brought people together amidst isolation to celebrate life during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by Beethoven’s famous Ninth Symphony. The SMSO will perform these landmark works alongside the Southwest Michigan Symphony Chorus, and other special guests.
